Introduction
The Eastern Association was a minor league baseball league that operated in the eastern United States during the late 19th century. It was formed when the New York State League joined with Canadian teams based in Ontario. It was known as the International League in 1886 and 1887, the International Association from 1888 to 1890, and was renamed the Eastern Association for 1891. The Canadian teams had dropped out so the league stopped being International in scale. The league played season 7 in 1891, 135 years ago.
The Eastern Association would eventually go on to form the International League, one of the top minor league teams in all of Baseball.
The season was a messy affair with teams disbanding during season play.
- Providence disbanded August 13.
- New Haven disbanded August 14.
- Syracuse disbanded August 25.
- Rochester disbanded August 25.
It would be reformed the following year as the Eastern League.
