International Association in 1890

Introduction

The International Association was a minor league baseball league that operated in the eastern United States during the late 19th century. It was formed when the New York State League joined with Canadian teams based in Ontario. It was known as the International League in 1886 and 1887 and was renamed the International Association for 1888 to 1890. The league played season 6 in 1890, 136 years ago.

The International Association would eventually go on to form the International League, one of the top minor league teams in all of Baseball.

The season was a messy affair with teams disbanding and moving during season play and the league folding before all games were played.

  • Buffalo transferred to Montreal June 4; then Montreal transferred to Grand Rapids.
  • Hamilton transferred to Montreal June 23; then disbanded July 5.
  • London disbanded July 8.
  • The league folded July 10.

The International Association would be reformed the following year as the Eastern Association.
