The Western Pennsylvania Football Circuit (WPFC) was a Top-Player League and first ever professional football league that operated in the north-eastern United States during the late 19th century. The league played season 1 in 1890, 136 years ago.
The Western Pennsylvania Football Circuit played as a loose association of American Football clubs that operated from 1890 to approximately 1940. The league was originally amateur, but professionalism was introduced to the circuit in 1892. This season is considered to be an amateur season. The WPFC would play an important role in the development of Football players, but none of its teams would go on to leave a legacy.
